A Global Communication Strategy for HPE’s Business Restructuring
The Challenge

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) faced a monumental challenge when announcing its landmark business restructuring. The company needed to effectively communicate the creation of 20 new publicly traded Fortune 500 companies, along with new corporate identities, to a global audience. This task was complicated by the need to maintain consistency across 44 languages while adhering to a strict 30-day timeline.
The restructuring also involved the creation of taglines, vision statements, and mission statements for each new entity. This required careful translation and localization to ensure that the essence of these crucial corporate messages was preserved across diverse cultural and linguistic contexts. The challenge was further amplified by the need to manage, update, and localize multiple content types, including marketing materials, websites, legal documents, and internal communications.
The Solution

To address HPE's complex communication needs, TransPerfect devised a comprehensive strategy that focused on the implementation of GlobalLink, TransPerfect's translation management system. Serving as the central hub, GlobalLink’s capabilities, such as its AEM connector, significantly improved productivity and reduced turnaround times. This integration allowed for seamless handling of the vast amount of multilingual content required for the restructuring announcement across multiple platforms.
TransPerfect also implemented translation memory technology to maintain consistency in terminology and phrasing as well as a grading and scoring system for reviewers to evaluate translations. The robust system incorporated full context translations and reviews for websites, allowing translators and reviewers to visualize content in its final form, which improved accuracy and reduced the need for revisions.
To meet the tight deadline, TransPerfect utilized its extensive network of linguists and leveraged automation where possible. The team worked around the clock, coordinating efforts across time zones to ensure continuous progress on the project.
The Results
The collaboration between HPE and TransPerfect resulted in a successful global communication of the business restructuring. The new corporate identities were effectively conveyed across all 44 required languages within the challenging 30-day timeframe.
The implementation of GlobalLink and its integrations led to significant improvements in productivity and turnaround times. The AEM connector, in particular, reduced the number of manual interventions required by project managers, streamlining the entire process. Furthermore, the data-driven approach to quality management, including the use of Tableau for visualizing translation quality metrics, provided HPE with valuable insights into its localization processes. This improved the quality of translations and helped optimize costs associated with reviews and revisions.
The success of this project laid the groundwork for continued improvements in HPE's global communication strategies. Over the following years, the company implemented 67 enhancements and fixes, further refining its localization processes and capabilities.
