Provider of translation plans Tempe site

The Arizona Republic – September 19, 2011

New York-based TransPerfect announced Monday that it is opening a Tempe site and will hire 150 people within the next year.

The company, which provides translation services in more than 100 languages for businesses, will immediately fill 50 positions for a new remote interpretation facility in Tempe.

TransPerfect is looking to fill a variety of positions, including call-center operators and possibly some director-level positions, it said, without elaborating on wages.

The company operates an office in Scottsdale with five employees, but demand has increased for its remote services, which are provided by phone and the Internet, officials said.

Another 100 positions likely will be created within the next year, said Kevin Obarski, who is vice president of Americas for TransPerfect.

"We're going to bring them on as demand needs, but we're showing so far that demand is already increasing," he said.

The expansion will allow the company to take more calls and provide more assistance to callers, he added.

"Remote language interpreting needs continue to grow," Ken Anders, chief operating officer of TransPerfect's Remote Interpreting division, said in a news release.

The privately held company would not disclose how much it's spending on its expansion.
