Best Bites in Zurich

Translations.com Vice President Dan O’Sullivan moved from the US to London in 2003. Twelve years later, he relocated to Switzerland for a life of fresh air and cycling, and has been there ever since. Below, we get his take on the best foodie spots in Zurich.

What are your favourite Zurich restaurants?

Markethalle (IM VIADUKT) – Located in a cool, recently renovated industrial part of Zurich under an old train archway. Everything is prepared fresh, with daily menus based on current seasonal foods.

Clouds – Atop the highest skyscraper in Switzerland, Prime Tower, Clouds has amazing views of Zurich. In the building lobby, I also recommend the bar in Hotel Rivington & Sons – an old speakeasy bar they shipped over from America.

Zeughauskeller – Traditional German food in a big old-school hall in the centre of Zurich.

Le Dézaley – The best fondue in the old town area of Zurich.

The Bite – The best burger joint in Zurich.

Seerose – Zurich’s take on a St. Tropez-style outdoor bar/restaurant.

Fork & Bottle – Micro brews, live music, great Sunday brunch (outside in warm weather).

Café Boy – Local ingredients, very good quality of food, not too fancy, great service. Fun fact: they try not to throw anything away so every day there is a spontaneous dish made of yesterday's leftovers.

What is the local speciality?

Bratwurst – you’ll find a great option at Sternan Grill in Bellevue.

Where is the best place to catch a sports game on TV?

Nelon Pub.
